Transform Your Home for the Holidays in Three Easy Steps

Decorating for the holidays does not have to be a chore. In fact, it should be fun. The biggest mistake homeowners make during this special time of year is to think they must drape every inch of their house in Christmas finery. By focusing on only three areas within your house, your interior will look like it has been fully decorated by a professional.

The Tree

Decorating the tree used to mean hours of assembly followed by more hours spent on stringing the lights through it. By the time you got around to hanging ornaments, the fun was gone. Consider one of today’s modern trees. They are pre-lit, and they often have only two or three sections to put together. You can even find ones with enough berries and pinecones already attached that ornaments are not necessary.

The Dining Room Table

If you are like most people, you will have a steady flow of guests gathering around the dining room table throughout the holiday season. Dress your table with a red, green, or gold runner. Place a Christmas centerpiece on top, and finish the look off with holiday chargers, napkins, and glasses at each seat. Battery powered lights can be added to the centerpiece for some extra sparkle.

The Fireplace

As adults we admire an elegant fireplace during the holidays while children focus on this area as Santa’s big entrance. When decorating for children, hang coordinating stockings for each family member. Place a candy garland across the mantel, and hang a portrait of the big guy himself above. For a more grown-up look, use a pine garland and hang a matching wreath. Consider a decorative fire screen in place of stockings.

Once you have decorated the fireplace, your tree, and the dining room table, the entire house will look amazing. By having these three simple focal points ready for Christmas, your guests will think you have done a wonderful job decking the halls.

Feels Like Home In Alice Log House

Last month when we went to Buda, we stayed overnight in Alice Log House, the place itself is very inviting, it was so much winter feels because of the fogs. This log house built as a home for those families who would like to spend time in Buda with minimal costs. I love the way they design the house, if it’s too small outside wait when you get inside, the place is so wide, the living room is so cozy, the veranda is very relaxing and the kitchen is so amazing.

Here are some pictures of the Alice Log House. Feels like you are in your own home!

They said that they are still lawns there that are for sale and it’s very affordable. Now if you are going to buy a portion there, you can make it as like the Alice Log House.

This were inside the house, there were more, I’ll just have to look at those pictures again, until next!

Finding a house for sale that meets all your needs and wants is next to impossible

Finding home builders in northern VA who can help you build your own is very possible. This lengthy, complicated and expensive process requires services from qualified professionals that:

  1. Are an established business in Virginia
  2. Make it a habit to be reliable
  3. Have good relationships with suppliers, local inspectors and subcontractors
  4. Are trustworthy and keep clear communications with you throughout the process

If you are in the market for a new custom built home, shopping for an honest builder is essential. Here are a few tips so you can arm yourself with solid information to make decisions in your best interest.

Identify Your Needs and Wants

Before you can have dialogue with the builder about what they are building, you need to know what you need, want and absolutely cannot live without. Make decisions about the type of home you need and want.

Also, know how much you want to spend to build your dream home. Some builders only cater to a certain type of house. Others may only build within specific price ranges. Therefore, you want to look for home builders who fit what you need.

Be Clear with Builders

Once you identify your goals, be clear with builders on what you expect. This way, they can make a clear offer on how they can deliver on your wishes. If you really want hardwood floors throughout your new home, tell them that. Neglecting to mention such things means the builder cannot provide an honest quote and assurance that they can get the job done.

Speak with Industry Experts

You may find that talking to industry experts such as building material suppliers, real estate agents, lenders and code inspectors can provide more insight on what to expect. They can also give you their top five local home builders. Most likely, they have worked with many different builders in Virginia. If a pattern emerges of suggestions, you can use those names as a starting point for finding the home builder you need.

The length of time a home builder has been in business is one of the most crucial aspects to determining if they will do a good job. A seasoned professional is not afraid to answer your questions, even if it means educating you on the disadvantage of adding something to your home. Keep these things in mind and do your due diligence before picking carpet samples and paint colors.

Three Beautiful Ideas for Using Pavers Around Your Home

When you live in a warmer climate, you’ll love how much time you get to spend outside. You can curl up with a good book as you rock on a swing on your front porch, keep an eye on your kids while sitting in a comfortable chair and invite some loved ones over for an impromptu party. One of the best products that you can use around your home and on your lawn is a paver. Made from either brick or concrete, pavers come in different colors and are easy to install. You’ll find some great and beautiful ways to use them too.

Create a Pool Deck

If you have an in-ground swimming pool, you can jump right in the water anytime you want without climbing up a ladder. Though you can install a pool without any type of deck, adding a pool deck made from pavers makes that pool the focal point of your lawn. This deck provides guests with a place to lounge before jumping in the water and can make a smaller pool look and feel much larger. You can even use pavers to create a stairway to the pool or to highlight the size and shape of the pool.

Build a Walkway

Do you love gardening and planting new flowers around your yard? Unless you have a walkway through your yard, you risk visitors walking right over some of your favorite plants and trampling those flowers. With pavers, you can create a walkway that shows guests exactly how you want them to move across your lawn. This new walkway also provides you with an elegant way to walk through your own lawn as you admire your plants.

Add a Retaining Wall

California retaining walls are beautiful but also serve an important purpose. These walls keep unstable parts of yards from collapsing because of a build up of water below ground. A retaining wall can help prevent damage caused during a mudslide or a rainstorm too. These walls feature pavers stacked together along the side of a yard or another space. Even as excess moisture puts more pressure on this piece of land, the wall will keep it from collapsing. Your insurance company may offer you a discount for adding a retaining wall. Contractors can use pavers to create walkways, retaining walls and patio decks for your home.
